It's my last day as an unpublished author ...

Today is my last day as an unpublished author. I start a new job tomorrow as a published author when St. Martin's Press release THE STRONGEST STEEL, book one of the Second Circle series. I’ve stared at this for a while, because Lord knows, the world doesn’t need an Oscars-worthy ode to my life and times.

I'll keep it brief. I started out as an engineer. Made cars at Toyota for a living. And somehow years later, through a combination of A-type personality, Scorpio star sign, and a hide that is tougher than a ninja-rhino, I ended up as Senior Vice President of a +$30 billion dollar retailer staring down the barrel of COO job offers. So when I oh-so-casually announced I was giving it up to write a contemporary romantic suspense novel, you could hear the ripples of laughter across three continents. (Well, my friends and family cheered, and they were the only ones that mattered.)

But with my first book, I landed four offers of representation, and I selected the determined and tenacious Beth Phelan at The Bent Agency. And with Beth’s help, this happened:

With Lizzie’s guidance, the book received the literary equivalent of a sea salt scrub followed by a swift application of souffléd cocoa butter.

Now it’s here, I don’t really know what to say. I assumed I’d be full of authory-type wisdom. But it all seems trite.

All I can say is this. I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity to write for a living. I’m grateful that I get to work with super smart people who share their expertise and advice, and want to help me be successful. I’m grateful to all the bloggers and readers who have taken THE STRONGEST STEEL to their hearts, and have given me some truly wonderful reviews.

Tomorrow I start my new job, Published Author, and it feels pretty damn spectacular.
